MASTER PRODUCTION SCHEDULING (Make-To-Order): 3-Day Class
Two-Level MPS Using Model & Option Strategies

OVERVIEW: This Three-day class explores detailed applications and procedures relevant to master production scheduling for make-to-order MRPII & JIT/TQC manufacturing environments. Configure-to-Order strategies can be used to manage final assembly resources and improve customer service. Conceptual team-based simulations provided in this course focus on the methods and uses of Business Planning, Production Planning, Resource Capacity Planning functions and Demand Management as each applies in a make-to-order, configure-to-order, and/or engineered-to-order environment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: In a Make-to-Order Company the final product is built to customer specifications through the use of models and options. Each customer order configures a potentially unique entity, specifying which options out of a set of possibilities should be selected to create the final product. Customer orders consume available assembly resources and are scheduled in accordance with availability and load. Here, the constraints to be carefully managed include option level inventory and assembly resources that must not be over committed or service to the customer and on-time delivery margins will fall below appropriate performance levels.

In this course, "Make-to-Order" planning functions are simulated using participant examples wherever possible. Conference Room Pilot test data unique to your planning challenges can be used to "prove" the validity of techniques and methods and encourage participant involvement.

Strategies and techniques for demand management will be discussed and simulated allowing participants to develop first-hand experience in applied procedures. The use of production strategies and final assembly scheduling functions will be discussed in detail. A fundamental concept of Make-to-Order environments for the control of option build rates is "Available-to-Promise" planning logic. This and other key concepts will be presented.

Business planning techniques and multi-level planning bill functions allow schedulers to control production build rates independent of seasonal forecast requirements. A simulation of procedures often used to manage time-fences, performance measures, and implementation techniques will be emphasized.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: This detail-oriented course is recommended for all project team members. It is designed specifically for both MPS & MRP schedulers and planners who need to understand the methods used to determine production schedules. It is suggested that all schedulers and planners be included in this class to assure more effective "closed-loop" communication and accountability that will help to assure the success of your implementation.
